Airplane Mode combines a live aircraft map with callsign, registration and aircraft-type context. The Military watch filter reduces ordinary traffic so tankers, transports, trainers, surveillance aircraft and other military-like signals are easier to inspect.
What a military aircraft tracker can actually show
A public flight tracker can only display aircraft that are present in the available telemetry. A visible contact may include its callsign, registration, ICAO address, aircraft type, position, altitude, speed, heading and route fields. The exact detail varies from one aircraft to another.
Airplane Mode turns those fragments into a consistent target view. When an aircraft type is recognized, the interface adds a capability label such as Tanker, Transport, Trainer, ISR, Bomber, Attack or Drone. That label explains what the aircraft family is designed to do; it does not claim to know the purpose of the current flight.

How Military watch decides what to highlight
No single field is reliable enough on its own. Airplane Mode evaluates several kinds of evidence: curated callsign prefixes, registration formats, aircraft type designators and known operator context. Strong, specific patterns receive more confidence than broad similarities.
This matters because commercial and military identifiers can overlap. A civil airliner may use a callsign that resembles a military callword, while a military transport may appear under an ordinary registration with limited route data. The interface therefore presents military status as contextual classification rather than an authoritative designation.
Why some military aircraft never appear
Military aircraft are not required to remain visible on public tracking networks in every situation. Transponders can be unavailable, coverage can be sparse, identifiers can be incomplete and operational restrictions can limit what is observed. A blank area on the map does not prove that the airspace is empty.
The map should be read as a live view of available signals. It is useful for aviation research, identifying familiar traffic patterns and learning aircraft roles, but it is not a complete operational picture.
A disciplined way to investigate a contact
Start with the identifier and aircraft type, then check whether the altitude and speed are plausible for that type. Look at the heading and recent trail before drawing conclusions from a single position. If a route is available, treat it as reported metadata rather than a prediction.
Finally, compare the contact with nearby traffic. A tanker beside several fast jets tells a different story from the same tanker flying alone, but the map still cannot determine intent. Airplane Mode keeps observation, classification and inference visibly separate.
What to know before opening the radar
Does Military watch show every military aircraft?+
No. It only highlights aircraft visible in the available live telemetry and recognized by the current classification rules.
Can the tracker identify a mission?+
No. Aircraft capability, movement and nearby traffic can provide context, but they do not establish the purpose of a flight.
Why can confidence differ between aircraft?+
Some contacts provide a specific military callsign, registration and known type. Others expose only one weak signal or incomplete identity data.
